Set Aside: series

This series draws its inspiration from the preceding project, Set Aside. Once again, charred wood is used as a medium, echoing the visual language of the original project. To create these pieces, hundreds of small wooden planks were repurposed from the larger ones that couldn't be utilized in the original installation, effectively breathing new life into the discarded remnants of the war in Ukraine.
The  charred wood serves as a  symbol of  devastation, mirroring the destruction caused by the current war. Each  piece of wood bears the scars of its traumatic past, much like the scarred planks in the Set Aside installation. The charring process, emulating the appearance of fire-damaged wood, is a vivid reminder of  the countless devastated villages and homes witnessed in parts of Ukraine.
Just as the scarred planks in the  sawmill were set aside after World War I, waiting for a new purpose,  these charred wood pieces represent the civilian population affected by the  ongoing war in Ukraine.
