The night before, the opposite building was hit by a Russian rocket. Leaving its windows shattered and awaiting replacement with wooden panels—a sight all too common across the city. Kharkiv 2024.
The aftermath of a Russian rocket strike. An old Ukrainian lady was killed that night. Due to its proximity to Russia the inhabitants have very little time to seek shelter for incoming missiles. Once the air alarm starts they have between 30 and 60 seconds (depending on the rocket) before impact. Kharkiv 2024.
During my stay in Kharkiv I stayed with a family in their apartment on the 24st floor. In the initial days of the invasion they could see Russian tanks in front of the church. Russia lays just behind the horizon, only 37km away. Kharkiv 2024.
Wooden panels replacing shattered windows: a familiar sight across the city's scarred landscape. Kharkiv 2024.
A destroyed Russian tank stands as a somber exhibit on Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv.
I had the good fortune of meeting Evgen Klimenko, an upcoming Ukrainian artist who lives in Kyiv. His studio/apartment became my safe haven during my stay. His assistance and knowledge of the city greatly contributed to the success the project
